This new compact and lightweight lens has a high-ratio zoom range of 28-200 mm, making it possible to combine a standard lens and telephoto zoom lens into one. With this advantage, the user is able to cover a wide variety of scenes, such as sport, landscape, travel and portrait, without the hassle of changing lenses. With a 0.45 minimum focusing distance, this lens has the highest macro magnification in its class.
The optical system used in the EF28-200 mm f/3.5-5.6 USM has been re-designed for the new focal length range. The inclusion of five moving zoom lens groups has made this high ratio zoom range of 28-200mm possible. The replicated aspherical lens elements combine to provide high image quality throughout the entire focal length range. The inner focusing feature prevents movement and rotation of the front lens during focusing, therefore, allowing various accessories to be attached to it without being hindered. This optical system has been constructed using only lead-free glass.
The exterior design of this new lens is enhanced by the silver accent ring at the front of the zoom ring, adding a touch of class.
A USM micro drive is used in EF 28-200 mm f/3.5-5.6 USM lens to ensure high speed and silent auto-focusing. Fully manual focusing is possible when auto-focusing mode is switched off.
